Tofu
The English word “tofu” is a Japanese word borrowed from the Chinese mandarin word for “bean curd”. Tofu was originally discovered by the Chinese over 2000 years ago when someone accidentally threw nigari, a natural coagulant from the sea, into the soy milk for the soldiers. The nigari caused the soy milk to curdle. Pressing the resulting curds into solid white blocks of varying softness and firmness makes for a great plant-based food full of protein and vitamins.
The De Weterings partnered with the Ying Family to make a ready-to-eat, extra firm, gourmet tofu using the traditional method to make tofu which uses “nigari”. Using the Certified Organic Soybeans from De Wetering Hill Farms only adds to the superior flavour and quality of the Ying Ying Soy Food products.
The tofu is best warmed up for 30 seconds in the micro-wave or tossed into a stir fry the last 2 minutes of cooking.
